HARDY SCHOOLBOYS
FOOTBALL WITHOUT BOOTS
For hardiness and enthusiasm the primary pupils of the Ohura District High School have created a record, states a New Plymouth correspondent. Rising at 3 a.m. on a cold winter morning, the boys and girls walked several miles to catch a train at 4.45 a.m. and travelled five hours in unheated carriages and then played basketball and football at Toko, where the eastern district schools were holding their annual tournament.
Scorning boots as effeminate equipment, the boys won the Needham Rugby Challenge Cup in a seven-a---side contest against opponents most of whom had their feet amply protected. No team could cross Ohura's line because of the determined tackling, and the barefooted boys scored 28 points through their speed and superior tactics.
