WEIGHT-LIFTING
(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., August 2. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Weight Lifting Association, representatives from all parts of the Dominion were present. Tne New Zealand championships are to be held this year in Auckland, and it was decided to leave final details in the hands of the Auckland Centre. The national secretary was instructed to proceed with arrangements for the visit of an Australian team during the Centennial Exhibition. Important issues connected with the progress of this growing sport were discussed, together with the interest being taken by the association in the national fitness campaign. Plans for a national physical fitness contest to be sponsored by the association shortly received wholehearted support, and the national secretary was instructed to proceed with arrangements. The secretary,, was also asked to keep in touch with a movement to interest the Maori race in the sport. Life membership was granted to Messrs. L. Wilson and N. Kerr, of Auckland, in appreciation of services rendered. Officers were elected as follows: — President, Dr. T. H. Pettit (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs. R. R. McKeen, M.P., E. G. Webb. A. S. Blackie, and F. Rawlinson (Wellington), T. Hercock (Napier), and H. McCoy (Auckland); hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. K. R. Mitchell (Wellington).
