ABNORMAL CONDITIONS

j The wettest place in New Zealand | during June (according to figures pub--1 lished in the Gazette last week) was Milford Sound, with 29 inches of rain and 21 wet days. Next in order were: Jackson's Bay, 20.07 in, 20 wet days; Chateau Tongariro, 14.83 in, 22 days; Waihi, 14.12 in (5.56 in above normal), 18 Idays; Hokitika, 13.25 in (4.03 in above j normal), 22 days. In Wellington rain fell on 14 days during the month, giving a total of 3.42 in, which was nearly , one inch less than normal. 1 The driest place in the Dominion ! during the month was Balmoral, with | only . 1.21 in of rain for nine days. Napier was second with 1.60 in for 11 days (1.32 in less than normal), Blenheim had 1.73 in for 15 wet days, and . the fall at Wigrarn Aerodrome was i 1.85 in for 16 wet days. | Distribution of sunshine throughout the Dominion was, with the exception of Napier, unusual during June and [many towns that boast of their clear 'skies were well down on the list. The ■ first ten towns on the list are as follows:—Napier, 131.5 hours; Masterton, 125; Fairlie, 124.5; Lake Tekapo, 120; Alexander, 119.4; Blenheim, 115,4; Tauranga, 115.1; Nelson, 112.4; Rotorua. 112.1; Wanganui, 111.8. Wellington's total for the month was 105.6 hours.
