MAORI SENTENCED

"Crimes of this kind in the North | Auckland district have been too frequent of late and too often committed by members of the Maori race," said ' ■ Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court' . -' today, when sentencing a young Maori, : Walter Ana&ia, who was charged witlr ' breaking 'anoNentering a store at Mitimiti and stealing a safe and_ contents. The Judge remarked it appeared from the evidence that others were con- . cerned who had not been found. It had to be made clear that crimes of this kind would meet with adequate punishment. However, it w££ regret- ' table that in this case part of the hardship would fall on the unfortuh- , ate wife and children. The prisoner was sentenced to two years' reforma* tive detention.
