VERDICT AT INQUEST

WANGANUI. July 27,
A verdict that death was caused by internal hemorrhage following a 22 bullet wound in the chest accidentally inflicted by Basil Devear Matthews in a shooting gallery, was returned by the Coroner, Mr. S. M. Dixon, at an inquest into the death of Eric Charles Hawkins. ... | The Coroner commented that from the evidence he was satisfied that the boy Matthews honestly believed that the ] rifle was unloaded. There was no j suspicion of malicious intent. The Coro- j ncr suggested that instructions in the handling of firearms should be included | in the school curriculum j He. said that two points could not be emphasised too strongly—never j point a rifle at a person and handle firearms on the assumption that they are loaded. ,
