"PICNIC PARTY" DANCE

(From "The Post's" Representative.) Each alternate year the committer of the Wanganui Girls' College Old Girls' Association entertains the present girls at a fancy dress dance. This popular party, held last Friday, was as successful as usual, and some forty old girls were present. Others present were Miss M. E. Baker, principal of the college, and members if the teaching staff. The grand march revealed many quaint costumes. The millinery parade in particular was very funny. All kinds of kitchen gadgets trimmed with vegetables were cleverly used, and humorous original verses were read by Mrs. G. R. Jones. Double Wedding. j The Church of Christ was attracjtively decorated in pink and white ! and greenery for the wedding of two sisjters, Misses Alsace Lorraine , and I Beatrice Eleanor, the eldest and yourigI est daughters of Mr. and Mrs. F. bL. j Loveridge, to Lewis-Colville, youngest son of Mrs. Colville and the late (Mr. Colville, and Alfred Coker, eldest json of Mr. and Mrs. Coker, of Gon- ! ville. The first bride, Miss Alsace, wore a trained gown of shell-pink lace over satin, a tulle veil, and carried orchids, carnations, and chrysanthemums. Miss Beatrice wore embossed silver ■ satin and embroidered veil and carried winter roses, lilies, and orchids. The bridesmaids were Misses Frances Humphrey, Ngaire Geatman, Florence Loveridge. and Marjorie Allen, who were frocked alike in rainbow-tinted spotted taffeta, and 80-Peep hats wi h flowers. Each carried a posy of tinted flowers. The Rev. G. Fretwell officiated, and the bridegrooms were attended by Messrs. A. Colville (Wellington), C. Coker, W. Loveridge, and P. Foley. Over 100 guests attended the reception at the "Rendezvous." Sutcliffe Group. McGruar's Hall was gaily decorated recently for the first anniversary of the Sutcliffe Group of the Radiant Living movehient in Wanganui. Some 150 were present in plain and fancy dress, and during the evening items were given by Misses B. Addenbrooke, E. MacMahon. S. Mills, E. Sanderson, E. Clark, and Messrs. A. Mentor and Duxfield. Miss T. Collier was the accompanist. Misses Ashmore.and Meads awarded the fancy dress prizes to Mrs. Stapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Prince, and Ray Metcalfe. Mr. Colin Morrell was awarded a special prize and competition winners were Miss Croon and Mr. Wattie. Teachers Entertained. Mrs. W. J. Boden was hostess recently to the members of the Wanganui branch of the Women Teachers' Association. Mrs. W. J. Robinson gave b a most entertaining talk on a recent trip to California, and Miss Tuffin on her visit to Honolulu. Among those present were Mesdames Merrington, Crosby, Ryan, O. Parr, V Taylor. Misses Houston. Dabinett, Bruce, Sampson. Curham, Bell, Carvell, Heise, Rutherford, Grant, Garye, Stevens, Evison, and Ockendon. Card Party. Mrs. Aitlron's home at Gonville was the rendezvous last Friday for many card players, when a party was held to raise funds for the furnishing of St. Peter's parish room. There were three hostesses, Mesdames Aitken,' W. Draffin, and E. Marchant. Mesdames Trevor, F Warnock, Andrews, and Lynch were the prize winners. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. J. Ballin, who have been on a motor tour of the North Island, have returned to Christchurch. Miss L. Watkins has returned from Taumarunui. ' • ■ Mrs. W. McFarlane has returned to Waverley from Auckland and the W.jD.F.Uv meeting in Wellington. Mrs. J. Williams,, Taihape, is visiting Wellington. Mr., and Mrs. Norman Stevens,'.Heretaunga. who have been motoring in the north, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jenkins when in Wanganui on their return journey. Mrs. H. W. Austin is visiting Wellington. , _' Miss E. Appleby, of Auckland, Dominion organiser of the W.C.T.U., is the guest of Mrs. E. J. Chesswas. Mrs. Cecil Harding, who .has * been visiting her mother, Mrs. E. Rankin, returned to the Waikato on Tuesday. Miss Margaret Poole, Palmerston North, is visiting Miss Nancy Hales. Mrs. C. Baldwin, Mrs. O'Sullivan, and Miss B. Baldwin have returned to Turakina Valley from a motor trip in the north. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. O'Callagahan left Hawera last week for a trip to Sydney. . ... ■ Mrs. J. Bishop, Hastings, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. J. Gardner. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lowry, Taihape, are visiting Christchurch for Grand National Week. . . Mrs C Baigent, Nelson, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. Healey, Wanganui East.
