THE AUSTRAL-MALAY OUTFIT
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post."') DUNEDIN, This Day. Austral-Malay gold mining dredge is now approaching completion. It is erected near Lowburn Ferry, not far from Cromwell, in the backwater of the Clutha River. The top hamper is being erected on a pontoon. The bucket ladder is practically ready to be completed, 'but the dredge will have to be turned about before it is taken aboard. When completed the dredge will be the largest of its type in the world with a weight of 2500 tons, while the buckets will have a capacity of 18 cubic feet ea*ch. BIG RIVER. The Big River Mine report for the week ended July 20 is:—No. 5 level: Filling-in operations in progress in south end stopes, also north end stopes. North level advanced 7ft, making a total of 25ft. No. 6 level: Testing stone in footwall 20ft south of winze. Stone lft wide showing gold. Winze sunk 3ft, total 54ft. Stone 4ft 6in wide. Battery.' Twenty-five tons of stone sent to battery. , ALEXANDER MINES. Alexander Mines reports for the week ended July 20:—No. 5 intermediate drive advanced 9ft through broken (country and north end of ore body has been reached. Face is now 265 ft north of winze from No. 5 level. No. 6 level: Stoping carried on in north end of block of ore above level. This reef continues to lie fairly flat and extends northwards very slowly. Stoping carried on above intermediate level. Some faces shown considerable faulting. Filling operations in progress north and south of winze by driving into walls of stope. Stope sent to bat- j tery for week, 50 tons ore. j
