PHENOMENAL DEMAND

A phenomenal demand for telephone service this year in Wellington and Lower Hutt has been experienced by the Post and Telegrapn Department.

As the result of inquiries made from the Telegraph 'Division today it was learned that the abnormal demand had resulted in requests for service gaining on the development programme with the result that some delay in providing connections had been unavoidable in certain areas. Usually a drop in demand for the service is experienced at this time of the year, but on this occasion the demand, has shown marked expansion.
