REST ROOM AND LIBRARY
The Petone Borough Council hai adopted a plan, prepared by Messrs. Swan and Lavelle, for the erection of a building on the present rest-room site in Bay Street, to accommodate on the ground floor in the front of the building -n up-to-date ladies' restroom, with a caretaker's flat above, and on the ground floor at the rear, newquarters for the municipal library. For' some years past it has been realised that the present rest-room is no credit to the borough, and the agitation for a new room culminated in an influential deputation waiting upon the council to have the matter rectified. As the proposed site is just alongside the rear of the Municipal Buildings, the necessity for providing increased office accommodation to overcome the congestion that has been accentuated by the appointment of traffic inspectors was considered in conjunction with the rest-room. It was found that the most feasible ! arrangement was for this accommodaj tion to be placed where the library is at present, and to olace the" library, i where a library should be, on the ground floor. This arrangement will also provide for a suitable committee room in place of the inadequate and unsuitable room that is at present in use.
