NO CHANGE

AUSTRALIAN TRADE

EFFECT OF NEGOTIATIONS

WITH BRITAIN

Questioned about the effect of the outcome of the British trade negotiations on trade between New Zealand and Australia, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) said today that as far as he could see there would not be any alteration in the existing position.

"We still have to impose import restrictions," he said. "The agreement with Britain will bring us closer to her in the matter of trade, and the volume of imports from Britain must increase above what they would have been had there been no negotiations on the question."
