MAYFAIR CABARET CROWDED

It was estimated that well over three hundred people accepted the invitation of the flag officers and members of the Royal Port .Nicholson Yacht Club and attended the ball in the Mayfair Cabaret last night. The dance was the formalacknowledgment of the fast friendship of the yachtsman and the longshoreman and as such was eminently successful. The guests were accommodated in casual groups about the ballroom and gathered in alcoves labelled after: various well-known yachts in the boat harbour. Reservations had been made either by the skippers or members of the crews of the boats Queen Charlotte, Miro, Atalanta, Dauntless, Rialto, Kitty, Astral, Belvedere, Cavalier, Innocence, Manon, Advance, Kotuku, Argo, Seabird, and Wairere 11, and the names of these yachts were placarded on the walls. The cabaret tables were each decorated with a spicy nautical drawing suitably labelled, and these were afterwards commandeered as souvenirs.

Iceland poppies and hanging baskets of maidenhair fer- decorated the cabaret, which has been recently newly furnished, and silver epergnes of poppies, jonquils, and holly were set down the buffet tables in the supper room. The Rivlei*a room was also used for supper and the buffet was set with hot savouries and saveloys which were given an aesthetic savour by the vases of anemones and jonquils placed at intervals on the tables. The ball committee comprised the commodore (Mr. R. N. Bennett), vicecommodore (Mr. J. A. Barker), rearcommodore (Mr. Clive Highet), secretary (Mr. R. N. Smith),, and treasurer (Mr. Peter Stannard). , The commodore (Mr. R; N. Bennett) entertained a large party.in his large, comfortably-furnished alcove, his guests including Captain and -Mrs. A. J. Lever-Nayloi*, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Smith, Miss Jennie Eadie, Miss M. Gilliland, Mr. R Quill, Miss M. Job, Mr. M. Bremner, and Mr. and Mrs. B. Corcoran. The vice-commodore (Mr. J. A. Barker) and Mrs. Barker, with their daughter, Miss Bernice Barker, also entertained a large party and the rear-commodore (Mr. Clive Highet) had reserved one of the bigger alcoves for his guests. To remove ink-stains from linen, melt a little fat and dip the stained part of the linen into it. .The stain -will disappear when the, article is washed.
