"LADIES' EVENING"

MANLY PRECINCTS INVADED

EXCELLENT HOSTS

"Ladies* Evening" at the Commercial Travellers' Club is an event not likely to be forgotten by.any who have been so fortunate as to attend; It is given annually by the Wellington Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association. The guests are exclusively feminine, the only men admitted being the members of the association —in other words..the hosts. This year's function took place last night, and the guests must have been nattered by the arrangements made for their entertainment. After being received in the vestibule by the president of the association, Mr. E. E. Brooking, and his wife, they were escorted up to the club's handsome panelled library, which had been arranged as a concert hall. When, everyone was assembled Mr. Brooking made a speech welcoming the

ladies, and then they were entertained with a programme of excellent items. The hall was crowded, there being about 350 people present. At the conclusion of the-concert''the chairs were cleared away and dancing took place. Supper, was.served in another spacious room on another floor. The tables were c'-ecdrated with' golden jonquils, and Streamers in the club's colours, gold and black, were suspended: from the ceiling; These were, the only decorations used anywhere- throughout the club, the handsome panelling and comfortable furnishings of all the rooms making' further embellishments unnecessary. Dancing continued until well' into' the early hours, and in between times some of the guests amused themselves ■ playing billiards in the spacious billiard-room. Those who.-took- part in the concert programme,, which, was arranged by Mr..'Bruce Quinton, .were Mr. R, J. Simpson (post horn solo), Mr. and Mrs. Hickford (duet), Mr. H. L. E. Dean). Mr. Eric Bell was the official accompanist. Many very pretty Crocks were worn.
