CAMPS FOR CHILDREN
Fifty camps, to be used for evacuation in war-time and as school camps in peace-time, are part of a £1,000,000 plan which Sir John Anderson, British Minister of Civilian Defence, has announced in the House of Commons. Each camp will accommodate 350 people, and the programme is to begin soon. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon) has agreed to make the money available, and the Bill will provide for the establishment of profit-barred public corporationsone for England and Wales and one for Scotland--with power to construct and manage the camps. Sir John stated: •They would be hutted camps, and would be a useful supplement to billeting under any evacuation scheme in the event of war. Their main peace-time purpose would be to serve as school camps, taking children from urban areas in relays."
