STUD SHEEP
SHIPMENTS TO AUSTRALIA
The lower prices for pedigree animals in New Zealand during the past year have interested Australian and other overseas breeders, and increased numbers have been exported.
Another large consignment of New Zealand-bred sheep left for Sydney and Melbourne by the Wanganella early in July. These sheep, which were handled by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, included 140 purebred Romney ram hoggets from the Wairarapa flock of Messrs. Gray Bros., purchased on behalf of a New South Wales client. For Melbourne a very attractive line of 50 Southdown ewes was shipped on account of Mr. P. F. Wall, of Hatuma, whose flock has been prominent in Hawke's Bay show rings for many years past. Mr. Wall's sheep are to be offered at auction by the company's Victorian branch.
■ A choice selection of Corriedale shearling ewes was dispatched about the same time by the Awatea to Sydney; this shipment, which filled a repeat order received from a New South Wales breeder, comprised eleven specially selected top-quality ewes bred by Mr. F. L. McGregor, Dunsandel, Canterbury, and one ewe and ram hogget bred by Mr. James Reid, Darfield, Canterbury.
