LIGHTING CHARGES
HUTT RECREATION GROUND
A request for a rate to be fixed for the new lighting system soon to go into operation at the Lower Hutt Recreation Ground was made by the Lower Hutt Borough Council at yesterday afternoonls meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board.
The council's letter stated that the installation would consist of 28 lights each of 3000 candle-power. As it understood that no rate had been fixed for this type of lighting, it requested the board to consider the matter. .
Mr. E. F. Hollands, the board's engineer and general manager, said that he jhad considered the matter, and recommended, that full commercial rates should be charged between May and September, but that for the rest of the year the charge should be 3d a unit, less discount. The winter charge was necessary because of the peak load at that period. At the full commercial rate, the system would cost' 14s lid for the first hour of operation in each month, 11s 3d for the next eight hours, and 9s 8d for the rest of the period, less discount. At the reduced rate the cost would be 9s 8d an hour, less discount.
Mr. J. W. Andrews, the Lower Hutt representative, thanked Mr. Hollands for his report, and said that the figures were well within the estimates.
The recommendation was adopted by the board.
