CLAIM ON ROYALTY
SIAMESE GOVERNMENT
(Received July 21, 12.50 p.m.)
SINGAPORE, July 20.
The Public Prosecutor has filed a suit in the Bangkok civil court claiming 6,000,000 ticals from the former King and Queen, allegedly being the value of Crown property, mostly bank deposits, which was transferred to the names of the King and Queen during the Government change-over.
Until the middle of 1932 the King of Siam was an absolute monarch but a successful coup d'etat was carried out in the capital and the King invited to rule in future, as a constitutional monarch. In March, 1935, King Prajadhipok abdicated and King Ananda, who will be 14 years old in September, was proclaimed..
Two years ago the Council of Regency, which acted for King Ananda, offered to resign after charges had been made that land belonging to the King had been sold privately to officials. The crisis resulted in the resignation of the Government and the re-election of the Council of Regency.
