PRISONERS SENTENCED

DUNEDIN, This Day.
"These offences were deliberately planned and it would be improper to grant probation," said his Honour Mr. Justice Smith, in 'sentencing Harry Vivian Smith •to four months' imprisonment without hard labour for breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. His Honour added that the accused carried out a fraudulent scheme to place goods beyond the reach of his creditors.
Commenting that it was with considerable hesitation, hit. Honour admitted George Rankin Aston (29) to probation for 18 months on a conviction of attempted carnal knowledge. Frederick Gordon (33) wa.' admitted to probation for three years, and was ordered to take out a prohibition order, on <a charge of robbery with violence. Qounsel said that the offence occurred when the accused was in liquor and at a house where the conduct was no credit to the persons there.
