POTATO CROP FAILURES
"This season has been the worst I have ever known for potato crop j failures," said Mr. R. McGilliVray. Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, at Christchurch yesterday, states the "Star Sun." One ! farmer had sown twenty bags of seed j for twenty-eight bags of potatoes. A Mid-Canterbury grower, who had had considerable success in the past, put in six bags of seed and dug only four bags of edible tubers. Late planting followed by a long period of dry weather was the chief cause of failures, said Mr. McGillivrayJ
