SECRET MEETINGS

SYBNEY, July 16.
I Rumours are rife of discontent among the ratings in the Australian ; Navy. i The ""'Sunday Sun"' reports that; secret meetings of the crews of all I the naval vessels at present in Sydney j will be held during the weekend j to consider an undertaking given I recently by the Minister of Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, to investigate the rumours. j The causes of complaint are said to be salaries generally* but particularly the married men's allowances, and also the disbandment of the men's welfare committees. The ratings were recently paraded and addressed by senior officers. Mr. Street, who is in Perth, said he had every confidence in the loyalty of the Fleet and of all members of ithc squadron.
