WOMEN'S GAMES

There were no surprises in the senior grade women's hockey results on Saturday. As was expected T.0.G., C.0.G., and Hutt United won their matches without much difficulty, and Poneke, after a hard tussle with T.O.G. H were also victorious. Grounds were heavy and in places very slippery. College Old Girls, in their match with Hutt Valley at Kelburn, soon had tho game under control. Hutt Valley pushed hard in the second spell, but were unable to penetrate the College defence. The ground was very heavy and the T.O.G. I-'Varsity game, which immediately preceded the match, had not improved the surface. C.O.G. won by 5 goals to nil, the scorers being Mrs. Wilson (3), Misses McLennan and Yeatman. . University showed improved form in their match with T.O.G. I at Kilbirnie, but, even so, they were soundly beaten by 9 goals to nil. ihe University defence stoutly resisted T.O.G. s persistent onslaughts, but were unable to check their opponents, and T.O.G. broke through to score with their usual accuracy. Both teams in the Poneke-T.O.G. II match, at Newtown Park, were on top of their form, andthe game was much faster and more exciting than was expected, especially as the ground was in a poor condition. T.O.G.'s circle weakness was a deciding factor. The team had several chances of scoring, but were unable to net. Poneke won by 2 goals to nil. At Woburn, Training College were slow to settle down in their match with Hutt United, and they had had 3 goals scored against them before they began to pick up at all. The second spell, however, was much more even, but Hutt United's superior circle work told in the end and the game resulted 4-1 in thenfavour. Training College played one short in their forward iine. Scorers for Hutt United were Misses Dawber (2), Walker, and Monk. Miss Spiers netted for Training College.
