CLOSING TIME

CHRISTCHURCH CHECK UP

CONDITION OF ROAD USERS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

As part of a campaign to reduce accidents the city traffic department has established a system of patrols under which a check-up is made nightly at city and suburban hotels as closing time approaches.

The Chief Traffic Inspector, Mr. J. Bruorton, said that every evening, particularly on Saturday night, the department was having a check-up outside the hotels. It embraced both motorists and cyclists leaving the hotels. Cyclists were included, as it was a fact that there were numerous drunken cyclists who caused trouble.

The inspectors engaged in the checking up process were instructed to make sure that motorists or cyclists were in a fit condition to take the road, added Mr. Bruorton. The measure was being taken to reduce road accidents and encourage road users not to take unnecessary risks.
