HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House of Representatives met at 10.30 a.m. today.
Mr. E. P. Meachen (Government, Marlborough) gave notice to ask the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) if the Government would give consideration to the question of acquiring land in the Blenheim district for closer settlement and the production of vegetables. Marlborough, he said, could supply all the vegetables required in Wellington provided suitable freight charges could be arranged. • On a point of order, Mr. S. G. Holland (National. Christcnurcn North) said that he understood that his noticeof question yesterday relating to payment of overtime to Government employees in the Ford building. Wellington, had caused some misapprehension He wished to make it clear that the question applied only to Government employees working in the building, and had nothing at all to do with the Ford Company.
Mr. J. Hargest (National, Awarua) gave notice to ask the acting Minister of Social Security (the Hon. W. E. Parry) if he was aware that seasonal workers applying for relief were compelled by departmental officers to submit to a means test.
The Federation of Funeral Directors Bill (Mr. R. McKeen) was introduced, read the first time and the second time pro forma, and referred to the Public health Committee.
