HUTT HOUSING

MEETING AT TAITA

SUBJECTS FOR DISCUSSION

The Hutt Valley Producers' Association has invited all who will be affected by the Proclamation placed by the Government over Hutt and Taita lands in connection with the State housing scheme in the Hutt Valley to attend a meeting in the Taita Hall this evening. There are three main subjects for discussion: the report of the director of the Hutt Valley development scheme regarding State housing in the Hutt and the taking of market garden lands; the report of representative growers who visited Kuku to inspect the land over which a Proclamation was placed for^ the purpose of small farms for market gardening; and consideration of the statement of the Prime Minister on these matters.

Farmers from Kuku are this afternoon making an inspection of the Taita lands with a view to comparing it with Kuku land for market gardening purposes. They will be present at tonight's meeting.

* It is also expected that Wellington consumers, alarmed at the possible restriction of vegetables and almost certain rise in price, will also be represented at the meeting.

CITY COUNCIL'S INTEREST.

The City Council was not called upon to make any formal representations, but if a councillor attended he might get some useful information to assist the council in the ultimate discussion of the provision of housing in the districts adjacent to Wellington, said the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, when an invitation was read at the meeting of the council last night inviting a representative to attend the Taita meeting.

Councillor W. Appleton agreed to attend.
