RESULT-WAR

NEXT AGGRESSIVE ACT

MR. ANTHONY EDEN'S V!EW

FEELING IN BRITAIN

(Britisli Official Wireless.} RUGBY, July 7. "We can expect no change for the better," said Mr. Anthony Eden, speaking in Stratford-on-Avon, "till all the Governments are finally convinced that any further act of aggression must inevitably involve all Europe in conflict. That is the crux of the matter. "The ultimate issue before Europe can be simply put. Either all those who enjoy the responsibility of power will understand that the days of smash and grab in Europe are over and will join to negotiate and establish some system of international order, or Europe will be plunged into war at the next act of aggression." "A WAR OF NERVES." Mr. Eden said that all sections of the British people loved peace, but they had made up their own minds on this —they were prepared to co-operate and negotiate when the menace of armed force had been removed, but | they were equally determined that there should be neither hesitation before threats nor concession to force. "The nation is fully alive to the nature of the challenge that confronts us. We are living through a 'war of nerves' —a description which is apt— but neither these tactics nor any other that can ife contrived will intimidate the British people. To .imagine that we can be worn down by a succession of alarms and excursions or browbeaten by repeated threats is to cherish a most dangerous illusion."
