LONDON, July 4.
In the British Open golf championship at St. Andrews 129 players scoring 156 or less qualified.
D. C. Collins (New Zealand) failed to qualify. In the second round Collins returned a card of 84. He went out with 456473435, and in with 445565464. In heavy rain and on a sodden turf he was bunkered many times, and frequently took three putts.
Henry Cotton returned a card of 69, which equalled the record.
The leaders among those who qualified are: —J. Bruen, 138; H. Cotton and Lawson Little, 142; J, Bulla and P. Alliss. 143; R. Whitcombe, 144; J. McLean and M. Pose, 145; V. Fallon, and Ballieu (Australia), 146; A J. Isherwood, S. Easterbrook, A. Compston, R. L. Locke (South Africa), J. Burton, M, Scott, Lees, C. Whitcombe, and L. B. Ayton, 147.
