DUNEDIN, This Day.
Local businesses , are substantially affected by the decision that,. the chartered; steamer Cape Horn is now to proceed direct to Melbourne. She carries .considerable cargo for Dunedin and that will be subject to the delays and costs of transhipment. The Otago Bureau of Importers approached the Minister of Labour, who has : expressed. regret, that he' cannot overcome the difficulty, expressing the opinion that the company's decision was influenced by a desire to avoid the possibility of further trouble. Anxiety is - felt concerning other chartered ships such as the Tolten, due lat Auckland on Monday. The Tolten's ; crew are also under English articles.. J In the report published yesterday of the proceedings at Christchurch against members of the-crew of the Cape' Horn: for being absent without leave, it was made -to appear that the * captain of the ship asked the Magistrate to refuse, an order for the men to return to the ship. This request' was in fact made by Mr, B. IA.. Barrer, counsel for the men. ■ ■ *•......*.. ■■■'.' ,
