DAVIS CUP TIE

AUSTRALIA BEATS MEXICO

(Received July 3, 1 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, July 2. Australia won the Davis Cup tie against Mexico by three matches to nil. The result of the.doubles match was:— J. Bromwich and A. Quist (Australia) beat D. Hernandez and E. Reyes (Mexico), 8-6, 6-0, 6-1. The arrival fifteen minutes late of Setfor Raul Castellano, representing President Cardenas, delayed the start of the match. The attendance was 4000. The Mexicans shone only once, and that was in the first set when they drew even after the Australians had led 4-1, largely due to temporary brilliance by Hernandez and Bromwich's weak service. They held the Australians at 5-all and 6-all, but the Australians then crushed them with devastating smashes.
