RAIN EXPECTED

Special forecast for Wellington:-— Moderate to fresh winds from between north and west. Weather cloudy to overcast with occasional rain. Temperatures moderate, but
possibly cooler tomorrow.„
The forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued by the Meteorological Office at noon today, is for northeasterly winds at first, but soon turning north-westerly or westerly, a temporary change to the south-west being probable in the faivsouth, with winds moderate to strong. The weather will be cloudy to overcast, with rain in western areas, and rain will soon become more general. There will be some heavy falls in the western and southern districts, of the South Island. IA temporary improvement north of the Waikato is probable. Temperatures will be moderate.
Yesterday's depression passed eastwards just to the north of the Dominion. Winds over the North Island remained easterly during the day, and scattered rains fell over the Auckland and Hawke's Bay Provinces. Forty-eight points of rain fell at Cape Maria Van Diemen, 190 points at Russell, 19 points at Kaipara, and 23 points at East Cape. Some fogs were also reported in these districts. The weather elsewhere was mainly fair to cloudy, but some isolated showers were reported in the South Island, where light to fresh winds from the north-east prevailed. The disturbance which was approaching from the Tasman Seayesterday is nbw close to New Zealand. Last night winds over the Dominion turned to moderate to strong northeasterlies, and this morning the skies were overcast, with scattered rains in most western districts, 98 points having fallen in Westport, and 86 at Puysegur Point. Temperatures yesterday were mild, but there were a few light fogs in the south.
The sky was clear early yesterday morning in Auckland, but cloud increased rapidly, and there was mist and intermittent light rain during most of the day, 23 points being recorded. Light winds -between south and east prevailed. Temperatures were moderate, the maximum being 60 degrees, and the minimum 54 degrees. . ' \ *
Wellington had a mild, sunny day, and there, was little wind. The evening also was fine and mild, although a moderate fog persisted in the valleys and over the harbour. The maximum temperature was 60.4 degrees and the minimum 48.4 degrees.
In Christchurch- it was overcast, but fine all day. Some light showers fell over the night. There was a moderate east-north-east wind, and this freshened during the afternoon, continuing over the night. Temperatures were moderate, the maximum 54.4 degrees and the. minimum 50 degrees.
Dunedin had a mild sunny day, a moderate north-easterly prevailing, cloud increasing during the night, however. This morning the weather was overcast. .
