REMOVAL OF APPENDIX
(Received July 1,10- a.m.) NEW YORK, June 30. The former heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey is suffering from peritonitis following the removal of a gangrenous appendix., The hospital reported: "Dempsey spent a fair night and is resting comfortably." His wife is staying at the hospital. The hospital superintendent said: "Dempsey is a very sick man." Telephone inquiries about Dempsey were so numerous that extra operators) were added to the hospital switchboard. Some, calls came from as far distant as California.
