BRITISH DENIAL
REPORTED ATTACK ON
YEMEN
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, June 13,
Recent reports in the German Press and wireless, apparently based upon statements in Italy, to the effect that! British troops have made an attack upon the Yemen (Arabia) are entirely untrue. The reports stated that troops attempted to occupy Shabwa, and this was described as a breach of the Anglo-Italian agreement of 1938. The stationing of protectorate guards in Shabwa, which lies close to the Aden Protectorate, actually took place several months ago. This conflicts with none of the provisions of the Anglo-Italian agreement. Recently guards have been stationed at a place adjacent to Shabwa, where the water supply and living conditions are better. There are naturally no Yemen troops in Shabwa, nor are any known to have been moved towards the area. "The Times" says that a certain Irakian was called to give evidence before an Iraki court-martial and he immediately left for Germany by aeroplane. He is now believed to be employed by a section of the German Ministry of Propaganda, which is responsible for public broadcasts.
