FARMERS' PROBLEMS
THE ONLY SOLUTION
REDUCTION OF COSTS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
ASHBURTON, June 13
About 400 farmers attended a meeting called by the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union to consider farming problems. The Dominion president, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, gave an address. The meeting resolved: —"That this meeting believes that the only sound policy for improving the lot of the^ farmer lies along the line of reduced costs. With that end in view, we are I of opinion that the work of the Royal Commission should be pushed forward rapidly.' Should reductions fail to materialise before next export season, we then strongly support the freeing of- exchange as a medium of bringing about a more balanced economy." An amendment urging that the rejference to exchange should be deleted was lost. The motion was carried by a huge majority, few not voting.
