NANKING BANQUET

POISONED WINE BLAMED

TOKIO, June 12,

The Foreign. Office announces that two employees of the Japanese Consulate at Nanking have died, apparently as a result of drinking poisoned wine at the banquet at Nanking yesterday.

A Shanghai cablegram published yesterday stated:—-Prompt medical attention saved the lives of 25 high officials of the Nanking Puppet Government, including the Premier, Liang Hungchih, and also the Japanese Foreign Vice-Minister, Tomasaburo Shimizu, after drinking poisoned wine at a banquet. One suspect has been arrested.
