"With very low pressure south-east of New Zealand, south-westerly winds have prevailed ancl increased from the south to strong or gale force by this morning. The weather has been very cold and squally, with passing showers, often accompanied by hail and occasionally by thunder. Snow has fallen on the higher levels of both islands. This morning there was au improvement over Westland but elsewhere frequent showers continued.

FORECAST. 1 ' Winds.—South-westerly to southerly, strong and squally generally and of gale force in exposed positions north of Canterbury and Nelson. Decreasing gradually, however,. in--the South Island.
Seas. —Very rough north of Wanganui and between Banks Peninsula and East Cape; moderate south of Farewell Spit; rather rough elsewhere.
Weather. —Fair on the west coast of the South Island; otherwise stormy and changeable with snow on the higher levels and hail in places. Improving gradually, however, from the south and west. Temperatures continuing very cold, with hard frosts in tha South Island.
