FATAL FIRE
MAORI CHILD VICTIM

I A Maori child, Awhina Nuku. a i year and nine months old, was burned ito death when the house, of her parents at Okawa, Hastings, was destroyed by fire this afternoon. The father was absent at the time and the mother was herding cows in a nearby paddock. , There were two children inside the house when the blaze was noticed. The mother ran into'the building and car- | ried one child to safety. "•: The place was burning fiercely when she -made j efforts to enter to save the girl and she was restrained by neighbours. j
