MILITARY PARADE

LORD GALWAY'S MESSAGE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, June 5.

The following congratulatory message was received from the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, by Major-Gen-eral Duigan, Chief of the General Staff, after the King's Birthday parade.

"I should be grateful if you would convey to the Officer Commanding and to all ranks who took part in the fine parade held in the Auckland Domain on the occasion of his Majesty's Birthday, my warmest congratulations on the most successful turn-out and on the neatness and steadiness of the men on parade. The march past and handling of arms were excellent.

"All those officers, n.c.o.s, and men who have today given their time to take part in the various birthday parades throughout the country have shown a fine patriotic spirit, and have earned the gratitude and approbation of their fellow-citizens.

"It is sincerely to be hoped that the present fine force of the New Zealand Territorial army will receive the support and encouragement which it richly deserves, and that it will very soon be able to complete its new establishment."

IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, June 5.

Dunedin honoured the King's Birthday in impressive fashion at Tahuna Park this morning, when a ceremonial parade of the city's military and naval units was held. A fairly large crowd was attracted.

There was a glitter from bayonets and brightly-polished buttons all over the ground, and the ■attractive blue full-dress uniforms of some of the units made a pleasing contrast with the khaki of the remainder of the parade. The general bearing of the units was commended on all sides, and altogether the parade was entitled to classification as an unqualified success. The officer commanding the parade was Colonel R. G. Mitchell, D.5.0., V.D.
