ASSURANCES TO POPE
HUMAN FEELINGS
EUROPEAN STATESMEN
(Received June 3, 1.15 p.m.)
VATICAN CITY, June 2,
The Pope told the College of Cardinals that he had received assurances of good will and resolve to maintain peace from the principal statesmen in Europe .as a result o'f his recent overtures. He added that he possessed "other information" which gave greater hope that statesmen would be guided oy human feelings in approaching international problems. His decision to intervene had been made at the beginning of May when dissensions appeared to be likely to lead to war. He was convinced that as a result of the survey there had been a relaxation of tension in the souls of men.
