FRENCH MANDATES
RIGHT TO OWMERSHIP
PETITION TO PARLIAMENT
PARIS, June 2
Deputy Jean de Beaumont has opened a petition to Parliament which is already supported by many Deputies and Senators demanding that the Government declare French Togoland and the Cameroons henceforth French territory.
Ml. de Beaumont declares that the fact that France agreed to administer the territories, which are under the control of the League of Nations, does not mean that she renounced the right of conquest of them, which is the only right recognised by the Reich.
Togoland, in West Africa, was formerly a German protectorate and was surrendered to the Allies at the outbreak of the Great War. It is now administered in two sections under mandates by Great Britain and France. The nearby Cameroons was also a German protectorate, invaded by British and French forces early in the Great War and was later ■ similarly allotted by the League of Nations under mandates to the two Allies.
