LABOUR VICTORY
DUNEDIN COUNCIL SEAT

DUNEDIN, May 30
The by-election today to fill a vacancy on the City Council caused by the resignation of. Mr. W. H. Shepherd (Citizens' representative) resulted \a the return of the Labour candidate, Mr. Phillip George Connolly, by a majority of 906 votes over the Citizens' candidate, Mr. Eric James Anderson. The voting was: Connolly, 10,544; Anderson, 9638; informal, 102.
Mr. Connolly's victory increases Labour's strength to four members on the council. This will not affect the policy of the present council. The roll number totals 47,000-
