THE FIRE RISK

TEST AT RONGOTAI

Rongotai aerodrome's fire-fighting equipment was given a thorough testing today in the presence of airport and Fire Brigade officials. As the mobile foam extinguisher van was due for recharge, the opportunity was taken to empty the tank under circumstances approximating as much as possible to crash'conditions. A large pile of rubble was heaped up on a corner of the field, and after it had ignited the engine and crew rushed up with commendable speed, the extinguisher was brought into play, and a large part'of the fire was quickly put out. Some was left burning, however, and one of the crew donned an asbestos suit and walked into the fire, directing the end of the extinguisher hose at the seat of the flames.
