LAUNCESTON, May 27.

Polling took place on Saturday lor the Wilmot Federal seat rendered vacant by the death of Mr. J. A. Lyons, the late. Prime Minister, There are six candidates, Mr. L. Spurr (Labour), Mr. M. Weston (Labour), Mr. J. Guy, Mr. D. Cameron, and Mr. C. Parsons (all United Australia Party members), and Mr. J. Watson (Independent).

The contest is likely to be close between Mr. Spurr and Mr. -Guy, but only a small proportion of the votes out of the 20,000 on the roll have so far been counted. The result is not likely to be known for some days.
