DAMAGES AWARDED

A jury of twelve in the Supreme Court has awarded Dominic Fitzgerald, a tyre vulcaniser, general and special damages amounting to £391 12s, for injuries suffered when he was caught in an electrically-driven buffiing wheel in the workshop of Nu-Tread, lLtd., tyre vulcanisers, of Taranaki Street. The jury, in a rider, recommended that the attention of the inspector of factories be directed towards having a proper safety guard fixed to that type of machine.

The case, which lasted two days, was presided over by the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers). Mr. C. Evans-Scott, with him Mr. M. R. Wattersori, appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. W. G. Mellish for the defendant.
