WASHINGTON, May 22,
President Roosevelt, addressing the American Retail Federation, declared that the Administration will not abandon any of its social or economic reforms. He vigorously defended spending under the New Deal, and said that widespread efforts to aid the sub : merged classes of the nation would continue unabated.
The President assailed critics for shedding "crocodile tears" over the size of the national debt, and criticised the United States Chamber of Commerce, whose convention he recently refused td address, because it demanded Federal economies wmTv ehdorsing public works spending in the home towns of individual members. He asserted that the nation was in an excellent position to move forward into a period of greater production and employment.
