WORK OF TRIBUNAL

SECOND MEMBER APPOINTED

The work of the Price Investigation , Tribunal, which was recently set up by the Government, is to begin this week, according to an announcement made at the weekend by the Minister - of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. - D. G. Sullivan).

Mr. Sullivan said that the tribunal would consist of two members, who would have the powers of judicial inquiry and investigation under tha

Board of Trade Act. As already an-* nounced, the Hon. Mr. Justice. Hunter was to be one of the members. The other member whom the Government had appointed was Mr. H. L. Wise, M.Com., A.R.A.N.Z., advisory officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce. Mr. Justice Hunter was additional / Judge of the Court of Arbitration and - would act as chairman of the tribunal, said the Minister. He was to leave Christchurch for Wellington tonight to ! take up his new duties. v ■ "Mr. Wise in. an accountant by examination, a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society," said Mr. Sullivan. "He has had considerable experience of price fixation and control in New Zealand under the Board of Trade Act,. 1919, and the Prevention of Profiteering Act, 1936, and has.in addition made a special study of price regulation and control in other countries. Mr. Wise has served on numerous Governmental committees, and is secretary of the Tobacco Board.

"Arrangements are being made for the provision of suitable office accommodation for the tribunaliri Wellington. In the meantime, the tribunal will , be housed in the offices of the1 Department of Industries and Commerce in the new Government Life Insurance building. .

"Regulations requiring that price increases be notified to the tribunal are now being drafted."
