MOUNTAIN CLUBS
FEDERATION MEETING
The-South Island secuz-ed the honour of providing the president of the Federated Mountain Clups of New Zealand on Saturday, Mr. G. G. Lockwood, of Christchurch, being appointed at the annual meeting of the federation. Mr. Lockwood has taken a keen interest in the affairs of mountain clubs for many years .and his election was unopposed.
In the absence of the retiring president (Mr. H. K. Douglas), who is abroad, Mr. A. P. Harper, of Wellington, presided over the initial stages of the meeting. He moved the adoption of the annual report which stated that only one serious accident had occurred during the year and that was the collapse of a tramper because of a heart attack that could not have been foreseen.
The report was adopted without discussion.
The following officers were elected: —President, Mr. G. G. Lockwood; vice-presidents, Messrs. N. L. Elder (Hawke's Bay), G. M. Fildes (Auckland), A. P. Harper (Wellington), and H. A. Snowden (South Island); committee, Messrs D. A. Carty (Wellington), J. D. Pascoe (Wellington), I. L. Powell (Wellington), D, H. Rawson (New Plymouth),. F. F. Simmons, R. Syme (Hawera), G. B. Wilson ' (Wellington), and S A. Wiren (Wellington); hon. secretary,. Mr. A. E. Galletiy (Wellington); hen. auditor, Mr. C. McAllister.
