CROWDED CONCERT

CHILDREN OF BERHAMPORE

A demonstration concert to mark the final entertainment of the annual amateur trials, sponsored by the Berhampore Free Kindergarten, was held on Saturday evening. As usual, the hall was crowded, many having to stand during the performance.

Several guest performers contributed to the programme, these including Mrs. Bridge (vocal numbers), Mr. Eric Bell (piano solos), Mr. Reg Morgan (songs), Mr. Baron Harris (baritone solos), and the pupils of Miss Adeline Burnett's School of Dancing.

Before presenting the prizes and thanking the adjudicators, Mrs. Dighton, president, was presented 'by the committee with a charming gift as a mark of appreciation for her untiring work. Mr. Hearn, the organiser of the amateur trials, was presented with a casket of cigarettes as a vote of thanks for his wholehearted efforts to ensure the huge success the trials enjoyed. The silver cups and prizes were then presented to the clever little winners as follows:—lnstrumental, Isobel Mills, Mavis Archer, Allan Clarke, and Jeannette Collier; elocution, Valeric Jackman, Fay Compton, Valeric Dighton, and Jacqueline Ferris; harmonica, Laurie Tallantyne and Gordon Kemp; vocal, Peter Rowell, Fay Compton, June Preston, Valeric Jackman, and Corinne Bridge; dancing, Judy Cooper, Edna Whitelaw, Peter Rowell, Merle McClymont, Shirley Hepplestone, Valeric Jackman, Betty Sines, Allan Vann, Dawn Lucas, Betty Williams, Norma Harris, and Georgina Thomas.
