DEFENCE OF MALTA

COMBINED EXERCISES

PLANNED

(Received May 20, 2.20 p.m.)

MALTA, May 19,

Combined Navy, Army, and Air Force exercises to be held here will include a complete black-out similar to those planned for August 11 in southeastern England, extending from Portsmouth to London and Hull.

The operations in Malta are of great importance in view of the Government's decision not to abandon the island and should silence controversy as to its defencibility.
