IDYLLIC VILLAGE
ON TROPICAL MOUNTAIN
FIND IN BRITISH GUIANA
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
2W3W YORK, March 15.
On the slopes of a mountain in British Guiana, bordering Conan Doyle's "Lost World," a village, the'inhabitants of which live in perfect peace and happiness, has been discovered by Professor Zahl, "Research Associate of the Haskins Laboratory in Union College.
Returning from his recent expedition, Dr. .'Sahl described the village, which nesfHed at the 5000 ft level, halfway up the; slopes of Mount Roraima, in the almost impenetrable country on the British Guiana-Venezuela border. The flat summit of the mountain is the site of Ddyle's "Lost World," said to have beea populated by "throw-backs" from the early days. The Indians are aboriginal and primitive, yet their life impressed the explorer as beii^g so idyllic that he tarried a week with them. He said he» found "practicaly perfect" human delations among them. There was no sign of anger—only laughter and geaeral happiness. Photographs he took bear out his findings.
Dr. Zjahl reported the presence, amid the mints of Roraima, of two waterfalls, e&ch estimated at about ten times the "drop" of Niagara. It was the first and higher of these waterfalls that led to the '"lost village." On a plateau that spreads from Roraima's base Dr. Zahl found an uncharted gorge in the midst of tho jungle. Over the edge of the gorge;1, the Uitshi River, a stream 200 ft wide.' in the dry season, plunged about 'l600f)t. He named it King George VI Falls.
