WOMEN AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As a woman elector I support "Housewife." The women should organise and take an interest in public affairs. It is very desirable that a good citizen should take a keen and 'active interest in our public life, but unfortunately to our cost many have neglected this great gift of democracy. ! All should be trained in methods of reasoning so they may be on their guard against bad arguments and immune against emotional propaganda. As party politics are an essential condition of effective representative government, not only must women organise j but the younger generation must be ! encouraged to think for themselves | and to form their own opinions on the leading issues of the day.
As a means of encouraging such desirable service and good citizenship I suggest a spirit of unselfishness is called for and executive positions on all organisations bearing on political and economic life of this Dominion be thrown open to representatives of the younger generation. I suggest that the National Party should give a lead in this direction because the drafts which conditions in New Zealand today will draw on posterity will have to be paid with compound interest. The present is no time for laying little traps for approbation or thinking of self, but it is a time for good citizenship and service which are the essentials of democratic government in the search for economic stability, security, and happiness for all. —I am, etc., j WOMAN ELECTOR, i
