MANY SOCIAL EVENTS

(From "The Post's" Representative.) NELSON, May 11.

The fifth festival of the Nelson Competitions' Society started on Monday, and will continue for a week. This annual event is eagerly looked forward to by not only the young, and for a week great interest is shown in all the programmes. The judges this year are Miss J. Home and Messrs. J. R. Lester and. F. W. Slater. Plunket Society. The annual meeting of the Plunket Society was held this week, when a very satisfactory review of the year's work was made by the president, Miss M. Nevin. A most interesting address was given by Miss B. Ogden, a senior Plunket nurse, who has recently spent four years in England studying dietetics. Tea was afterwards given by the general committee. Miss Ogden also spoke at the annual meeting at Motueka. Mr. A. Gould was in the chair, and among those present were Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. J. Wallace, Lady Rigg, Mrs. R. H. Davies, Mrs. W. Rogers, Mrs. H. Pitts-Brown, Mrs. J. Williams, Miss Hunter Brown, Mrs. Biddle, Mrs. Winn, Mrs. R. Hunt, Mrs. Craighead, Mrs. Dawson, Mrs. Farmer, Mrs. E. R. Neale, Miss Hunt, Miss Pascoe. Supper Party. Dr. and Mrs. D. C. Low gave a most enjoyable picture and supper party this week, and some of the guests were Dr. and Mrs. F. Hudson,.Mr. and Mrs. H. Harley, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Searle, Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Twiss, Dr. and Mrs. Williams Morning Tea. Mrs. Stanley Wiggins gave an enjoyable tea one morning recently at the Women's Club when the quiet and warmth of the club rooms were ih great contrast to the very cold wind outside. Some of the guests were Mrs. D. Edwards, Mrs. H. Robison, Mrs. G. Hoby, and Miss J. Tomlinson. A "Noel Coward Evening." A most interesting and enjoyable evening was given by the members of the Repertory Society on Tuesday, when the complete programme was devoted to the works of Noel Coward. The musical items, played by Mrs. Vaughan and Mr. C. Lee, popular songs, and five sketches were all written by Coward, and the latter were very admirably played. A short sketch of Noel Coward's life was first of all given by Miss F. Weyergang, and the audience was thus more able to appreciate the amazing versatility of this talented author. Members of the society who took part were Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Parker, Mrs. Moynihan, Mrs. A. S. G. Adam, Mrs. E. R. Neale, Miss Greenwood, Mrs. A. Campbell, Miss E. Moore, the Misses Wearing, Just, Baxter, Beattie, Rout, Harris, Macfarlane, Brent, Willis, and Messrs. H. Addis, F. G. Twiss, West, Sim, Dobbie, and Captain Hill. Some of those in the audience were Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Leggatt (president), Mrs. J. P. S. Jamieson, Mrs. F. Greenwood, Miss Hunter Brown, Mrs. Campbell Smith, Mr. and Mrs. H. Jennings, Mrs. E. Izard, Mrs. G. Rout, Miss Carmichael, Mr. and Mrs. S. Wiggins, Mrs. J. Leggo, Mrs. T. A. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. dv Flou, Mrs. Satchell, Mrs. Coote, Mrs. J. M. Lorimer, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lemmer, Mr. and Mrs. E. Allen, Mr. and Mrs. H. Pitts Brown, Mrs. L. Rowe, Mrs. Feck, Mr. and Mrs. Passmore. Personals. Mrs. G. M. Davis is spending the holidays in Christchurch. Miss Dorothy Waters, Miss H. Washbourn, and Miss Winifred Wallace spent a few days with Mrs. G. Boulter, Blenheim, on their way south. Mrs. Earl Johnston has gone to Auckland to stay with her mother, Lady Cooper. Miss M. Rout, who has been teaching in Auckland, is at present staying .with her parents, Mr., and Mrs. V. Rout. Miss B. Ogden spent a few days at Wainui.
