VICTORIA COLLEGE

CONSTITUTION OF COUNCIL

Elections to determine a number of representative on the Victoria University College Council, will be held early next month.' In the case of .■•three-, constituencies, a ballot has not been necessary, only one nomination having been received for each vacancy.: Mr. H. A. Parkinson, M.A., has been re-elected by the teachers of primary schools, and Mr. W. A. Armour, M.A.,..M.5c, by the teachers in secondary schools and technical day schools. Mr. W. H. P. Barber did not seek re-electiori by the governing bodies of secondary schools, and this vacancy has been filled by Mr. L. W. McStenzie. '

Two members are appointed by the Governor-General in Council, the present appointees being Dr. T. D. M. Stout, D.5.0., 0.8. E., F.R.C.S., who is eligible for reappointment this j^ear, and Mr. T. Forsyth. The Wellington City Council will also make an appointment shortly, the present representative being Mr. H. A. R. Huggins.

Members of the education boards in the university district —the Wellington. Wanganui, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, and Nelson boards—are required to elect one representative. The nominations are those of Mr. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C, the retiring member, and Mr. W. V. Dyer, chairman of the Wellington Education Board. The election will be held on Monday, June 5.

For two vacancies among the four representatives of the Court of Convocation (the graduates)., four nominations have been received, and this election also will be held on June 5. Mr. Justice Ostler is not seeking reelection. The nominations are those of Mr. P. Levi, M.A„ the present- chairman of the council, Mr. Justice Smith, Mr. W. P. Rolliiigs, I&A^ LL.B.;: arid Dr. Agnes Bennett,-B.Sc. The retiring member elected by the Professorial Board is Professor F. F. Miles. The. principal of the; college, Professor T. A. Hunter, remains on the council by virtue of; his ; office.

The new members of the council ■will take office at the July ,me.etin'g, which will also be the annual meeting of the council;
